Love Lies Bleeding is kino

This movie is about two lesbian[1] lovers who mow down some sleazy dudes and are not necessarily correct for doing so. It is delightfully amoral. The protagonists don't deserve to win, they don't deserve each other, they don't deserve anyone. Their relationship will probably end badly in two weeks. And yet I root for them. I revel in their successes and feel anxiety at their failures. It might be the most distilled love story I've ever seen - no outside justification is offered to bolster the case for their romance. They're not perfect for each other, no one proves themselves, they're not even anti-heroes who are too badass to not bang. There is no ideological frame for their subjective experience. Even the aesthetic fails to offer any support. The violence is in a horrific( and occasionally surreal) style rather than Tarantino cool. The setting and outfits are grimy and realist. This movie is willing to rest entirely on its( not necessarily likable or just) emotional core. I appreciate that.
