Weekly Anime Post 143

Finished Takagi-san, I liked it a lot and it got a proper ending. Its a very chill show, the setting in the small town is also kinda relaxing, and it doesnt have any drama for the sake of drama. Also the side characters are good. I think there is a spinoff manga where they are adults, Id watch that too if they ever adapted it.

After that I didnt really know what to watch, I started rewatching 'The World God Only Knows' which I watched properly a few years back, but it didnt really fit the mood, I also started 'My Clueless First Friend', but I dont think Ill keep watching, seems a bit too childish.

Then I started 'Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai', I only watched the first episode and am not sure if Ill keep watching. The concept of the show is that the male lead is a 'background character' in life and mostly invisible to his peers, which doesnt sound too bad, but for some reason the show takes this literally at times, like the dude is literally invisible to people standing in front of him. I dont know if I can bear to watch the whole show if they keep that dumb shit up.

I honestly dont get why the japs are so in love with stupid gimmick shows in the last few years, it feels like every second romance/romcom show has a character with a stupid gimmick, and the gimmick is always tired out after three episodes but they keep going with it for the whole show.

Anyway, after that I decided to give 'Kaguya-sama: Love Is War' another try after not liking it back when the first season came out. I was surprised that I liked it. I dont even remember what exactly put me off the first time I tried it, but I think it was mostly the narrator dude being annoying. And he still is annoying, but not that bad. The show is pretty good, though it also has the aforementioned gimmick problem, albeit to a much lesser degree. It is also enhanced by its side characters, and has a satisfying ending, even though I think the movie was a bit overdramatic out of nowhere. I have seen people online talk about a potential fourth season, but I think it is fine how it ended. Maybe another season where it focuses more on current side characters (eg Ishigami) would be nice, where it would sideline Shinomiya and Shirogane a bit, but if nothing else comes it would be fine too.

Unfortunately, now that Ive finished kaguya, I have again reached a point where I dont really know what to watch :marseydepressed:

I am upset that pitou from Hunter x Hunter is a male

He is clearly a cute psycho cat girl. Why would the Japanese do this to me and make him male?

I think they are cruel and heartless to have done so.

Where's my short hair cute psycho gf?

An interview with Hideaki Anno by Asahi Shimbun for his exhibition reveals that the director isn't opposed to more Evangelion in the future, though it might be done by someone other than him.

With Evangelion 3.0+1.0 now three years old, Anno was asked about potential plans for more Evangelion, and he responded that there were no concrete plans at the moment, but he wouldn't be averse to the idea, especially giving free rein to someone else other than him.

Meanwhile, Anno would rather focus on Space Battleship Yamato, where he is in charge of producing the anime's 50th anniversary plans.

Coming off the trilogy of Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider, Anno said that he was fine with stepping away from the director role for now, especially with the time crunch that was caused by COVID wearing down his physical and mental health.

Weekly Anime Post 142

Started a few shows, all of which I probably wont keep watching unless someone tells me they are good: 'Bibliophile Princess', 'As Miss Belzebub Likes It' and 'Summoned To Another World For A Second Time'.

I also watched 'Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon', was okay I guess.

Then, after so much 'meh', I decided to rewatch something I knew I liked, and remembered that 'Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-San' got a second season. Its a very good show, I hope it gets another season. The male lead is a loser, but they managed to make him not an annoying cute twink, like most anime with loser male leads fail to do. Plus nagatoro is cute.

Also it has a marsey reference?!?

Then I wanted more of the teasing stuff, and the only two shows which are that way I remeber are 'Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-San' and the anime with the girl with the Sugoi Dekai shirt. I latter I remember not finding that good, though still okay, but when I watched Takagi-San back in 2019 I liked it a lot, and I havent seen season 3 or the movie yet, so I rewatched it, and just started season 3. I still like it, though its much slower than nagatoro, which is to be expected considering the setting, but it picks up the pace in season 2. Im looking forward to the rest.

Thats it for the week, !anime let me know if there are more shows like nagatoro that I somehow missed.

Bleach doesn't even feel like a real show but knowing the ending actually makes it a far better show. The premise is weird as frick even for anime. Grim reapers are not only real but they protect humanity from what are basically corrupted spirits. There's a whole illuminati level hierarchy that runs the soul society and just now in the post blood war are the characters finally going to heck, a place alluded to since like episode 1. It's just such a bizarre series where it feels like the lore was invented in the very chapters they debuted in. The first arc even makes it seem like a slice of life show with mysticism but nope it turns into a battle shonen. I feel like if I would explain the plot of bleach I would say "but actually" roughly 25 times. I remember watching this as a kid and being so confused about the plot. It makes a lot more sense just reading summaries online. If you want to know a super short summary, Ichigo was basically created to be the ultimate living weapon. Everyone (good and bad) has their own agenda so they manipulate and lie to him which pushes the plot forward. Imagine an easily manipulated noob controlling a max level mmorpg account with maxed out legendary equipment. The entire show is just him figuring out the controls and mechanics. That's Ichigo in a nutshell. The entire show under this concept makes WAYYYY more sense. Who is your favorite character? I think Grimmjow for me personally. That seems like a cop out but yeah he's cool.
