Got a thing where I'd have to relocate for rto nonsense at my current job in a couple months (85k for frontend software dev at a big consulting place) and I've got a couple years of experience from this job now so I'm evaluating my options.

How fricked is the market? I saw a lot of doom and gloom on /g/ and reddit when I was poking around but I haven't heard back yet from any of the apps I sent out last week to start getting my own read on things except the expected "frick off r-slur" responses from STRAGMAN .

How important are stats and numbers about my work in the resume? I see it emphasized on the SEO optimized spam resume advice sites. Not sure how seriously I should take this.

Dear Emily,

The individual straight cises whom I work with are pretty nice for the most part. Still, people (mostly my boomer coworkers) often misgender other people (mostly the younger they/thems) at my office and bristle when corrected. This has led to hurt feelings all around and some trans workers leaving the organization. Clearly, trans staffers including me thought, We need some outside help. So we requested that a trainer, outside our org, be hired to do a cultural-competency training that would cover pronoun use. And though it took years of private cajoling and public shaming, we finally got what we wanted! Well, we kind of got it. As part of the approval process, the DEI consultants we work with had to pick the trainer, and wow, what a pick they made.

The trainer is an interesting person who belongs to many identity groups, including being trans, but more significantly identifies as being “kinky.” Of course, I celebrate every time anyone but especially a trans person finds sexual gratification in this world. But their own kinkiness has come up a lot in this 101-level training on gender identity. We asked for an “intersectional perspective,” but perhaps we should have specified the intersection.

For example: When addressing questions like “What should I say if someone misgenders my coworker?,” this person's answers include that misgendering may be all right if it is part of sexual play. But why would any of us be doing “sexual play” with our coworkers in the workplace? This wasn't the guidance I was hoping for. Colleagues who knew I agitated for the training are texting me on the side like, “Can we talk about the kinky thing?” or “I am really confused how kinky is an identity like trans,” or “They lost me with the kinky stuff” or “LGBTQ … K?” Sadly I more or less agreed and have begun spite-counting the hours I spent thinking about this issue and talking to people about it, which has grown to more than ten, for a thing that was supposed to be simple and actually make my work life easier. Like many people, being trans has made me believe in conspiracies, which raises the question: Did management intentionally pick this trainer in the hopes that this effort will fail, or create confusion that will then allow people to continue to use the wrong pronouns for the they/thems, because when they do they will be like “I thought you were into misgendering kinky style, as implied by the mandatory HR training?”

Maybe I should leave it alone. Am I just being prudish? Shouldn't I let this trainer bring their “whole self” to work? Still, trans people are often perceived as hyper-sexualized, so I think it matters what associations are made in our workplace. And on a more personal level, I don't want Sharon from accounting picturing me with whip cream and a cat-o'nine-tails because I include my pronouns in my email signature. It's opening a weird door at work that I would like to remain shut. Plus, if I were the trainer and people were confused by or mocking my lessons, I'd want to know for my own reputation and professional development. Is there a way to offer constructive, respectful feedback that would not be perceived as s*x shaming? Should I “drop it in the chat” during the next training that we don't need to hear about their Feeld profile? Should I complain to the same bosses who I begged to set up the training in the first place? Is the lesson here never to ask for anything at work, to quietly stew in my own simmering resentment rather than take action? How very kinky!

I have to begin by stating this position: I strongly feel that no one should ever have to think or, god forbid, talk about anything sexual at work. I cringed so hard when I read your description of the supposed DEI trainer's inclusion of their kinky proclivities in a 101-level training about gender identity! This person behaved completely inappropriately. There's absolutely no need to bring up a Feeld profile or misgendering as part of sexual play in a DEI training unless the employees involved deal with these issues professionally in some way. From the tone of your letter I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your workplace is not a s*x-toy testing lab.

You can't undo any damage that might have been done, but I have some ideas about how to prevent a similar scenario from unfolding in the future. I asked my own organization's head of DEI how he'd respond to your question, and he told me about a recent training that didn't go as planned. Afterward, he wrote a letter to the attendees in which he made it clear that the trainer, who'd been brought in from an outside organization, used language and relied on stereotypes that didn't align with our company's values and made it clear that he'd be sharing this feedback with the leadership of the organization that brought in the trainer. But he also stressed that he'd found value in some other aspects of the training and reiterated those useful lessons. It was as perfect a piece of corporate communication as I've ever read, and as a bonus, it felt sincere and deeply thought out. Mostly, it made me think that what your organization needs isn't outside DEI consultants. Your organization needs … a dedicated in-house DEI manager!

Hiring a DEI manager should be a no-brainer for an org that's already lost employees due to a companywide culture of insensitivity toward trans employees. Instead of going to the bosses whom you begged for this training and complaining about how it went, you should be banding together with everyone who complained to you about the training and coordinating a meeting with your bosses that has one simple ask: adding a position to the management layer of your company that deals with these kinds of issues exclusively, so that in the future you and your fellow employees can take your complaints directly to them. Ideally, this person would also vet outside trainers and take a firm hand in coordinating the training themself, so that Sharon in accounting is clear on the basics of correct pronoun use but doesn't automatically assume all trans people are kinky.

In other words, the problem isn't this one kinky trainer. It's that your bosses tried to put an inexpensive Band-Aid on a problem that needs a more long-term, sustainable, and yes, expensive, solution. But you can make the case to them that their investment will pay off in employee retention and workplace contentment. With some group effort, your office can eventually be just, fair, inclusive, and 100 percent vibes-free.

For many, many years, I've recorded that my girls outperform the boys by a wide margin. In my case, the measured difference between them is so large that I cannot help but think something is wrong with our boys, particularly after I also account for their general behavior.

If I test 100 children and score work blindly, with names removed, the top 90% will be girls, and it has been so for a couple decades.

Boys largely struggle to follow simple directions. Working memory is poor. Executive functioning is minimal. They are impulsive to the core, constantly distracted, and unable to perform at grade level. Compared to girls, the boys leave me feeling as if I where working with infants and toddlers. Most students we have in our special education programs and those with IEPs are boys. In every class I've had, most of the boys strike me as being mentally handicapped. Yes, there are outliers. There are always outliers amongst both genders.

Elon Musk fires Tesla's entire supercharger team

Elon Musk has shut down the division that runs Tesla's Supercharger business, dismissed two senior executives and fired hundreds more staff as the electric-car maker continues its restructuring amid a sharp downturn in the EV market.

Musk announced internally on Monday that the head of the superchargers group, Rebecca Tinucci, and Daniel Ho, head of new products, would be leaving along with their entire teams. About 500 people were in the supercharger group, the memo said.

Tesla's supercharger system is among the largest charging networks in the world, and was one the reasons the company enjoyed such a commanding lead over rival carmakers for so long. While the supercharger operations will continue, the move raises questions over the future of the charging business.

The entire public policy unit will also be disbanded following the departure of its leader, Rohan Patel, in the middle of April.

“Hopefully these actions are making it clear that we need to be absolutely hard core about headcount and cost reduction,” Musk wrote in the memo, which was first reported by The Information. “While some execstaff are taking this seriously, most are not yet doing so.”

Any manager “who retains more than three people who don't obviously pass the excellent, necessary and trustworthy test” should resign, he added.

Tesla shares, which fell 5.5 per cent on Tuesday, were down another 2.6 per cent in pre-market trading at $178.53 on Wednesday.

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.

The latest dismissals at the company come after Musk announced last month that the carmaker would cut “more than 10 per cent” of its total workforce, more than 14,000 jobs, in order to be “lean, innovative and hungry”.

The urgency of the shift was underlined by Tesla reporting a decline of almost 10 per cent in revenues in the first quarter of this year, its first year-on-year quarterly drop since the start of 2020. The share price has more than halved from its November 2021 peak of just under $410 a share.

The decision took staff by surprise. Will Jameson, who worked in the Tesla supercharger team, wrote on X that Musk “has let our entire charging org go”. Another employee of that division, George Bahadue, posted on LinkedIn confirming he had been let go.

He added: “What this means for the charging network, [North American Charging Standard] NACS, and all the exciting work we were doing across the industry, I don't yet know. What a wild ride it has been.”

When Jameson was asked by a reader on X why the entire division had been let go, he replied “your guess is as good as mine”.

Musk said in the memo that superchargers sites under construction would be finished and “some” new locations would be constructed.

The surprise move comes despite Tesla having built the dominant EV charging network with 50,000 sites globally and 15,000 in North America. Recently it has signed contracts with several rivals, including Ford, General Motors and Rivian, to use its NACS charging standard.

Models from other carmakers will be able to use its branded charging stations, potentially bringing Tesla a significant revenue stream, as well as establishing it as the de facto industry standard.

Tinucci, Ho and Patel are not the only long-standing Musk lieutenants to leave this year. Drew Baglino, senior vice-president leading Tesla's engineering and technology development for batteries, motors and energy products, resigned in April and Martin Viecha, its head of investor relations, said he would step down on the company's first-quarter earnings call last week.

In a post on X, Musk said the carmaker would continue to grow its supercharger network “at a slower pace for new locations”.

“More focus on 100 per cent uptime and expansion of existing locations,” he wrote.

A few months ago a new makeup brand called Youthforia caught some flak from black beauty creators because their foundation shade range was basically non-existent for black people, and that's not allowed unless you're a Korean or Japanese brand (for obvious reasons). The owner of the brand (who is asian but is American and Youthforia is an American brand) actually came out and tried to defend their shade range by UNIRONICALLY saying it was a SOCIAL EXPERIMENT and was met with even more criticism because we all aren't fricking BLIND and that's STUPID. AND all of the shades on the box were NOT the shades that you get in the bottle so darker shades were actually even lighter than advertised which only made people more upset.

SO to appease the masses Youthforia expanded their shade range and introduced like 5 new shades for darker skintoned people and now everyone wants to burn down their HQ.

IT'S FRICKING SHOE POLISH BLACK. This shade is a literal asian-on-black hate crime and everyone is soooooper mad because it's LITERALLY black face paint. The shade is being compared to minstrel makeup and now Youthforia is sooper raycist.

Proana Chipotle manager helps workers learn portion control

My manager makes us “weigh in” before starting a shift and then again before a shift meal

I don't really know what to make of this. We've been under a lot of pressure to portion control. My manager is always freaking out when we are low on anything at all and says we aren't hitting our “numbers”.

I swear he's getting paranoid due to the pressure from corporate. There's a lot of concern about employees eating on the job and “skimping off the bins”. He decided to remedy this with a scale. I shit you not.

Before every shift we have to weigh in. Before we have our shift meal he makes us weigh in again. He says if we've gained weight we don't get to have a shift meal because obviously we are skimping? Apparently water doesn't weigh anything.

This feels illegal but he says it's not because it's to prevent theft and that he keeps the numbers private. Has this been implemented at other chipotles? Please help.
