So this is a complete compilation of all of LPG's posts on the /o/ board. He was a used car salesman and had countless examples of the most mind boggling financial self destruction. Tale after tale of poors deciding that yes, 29% apr on a car loan is perfectly fine if it means not having to be seen in a hyundai anymore.

This collection of stories is the perfect distillation of peakpoors, and I hope you all enjoy :marseyexcited:

New cooder language can use your GPU to run code in parallel :marseycumplosion:

TLDR

Bend uses "interaction combinators" to parallelize your code

It's written in Rust and looks like Python

No loops. You use bend to structure data and fold to parse it recursively

You can use your GPU (or extra CPU cores) to run shiet in parallel

Durov (Telegram) blows another hole in Signal's security.

๐Ÿคซ A story :marseyslime: shared by Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, uncovered that the current leaders of Signal, an allegedly โ€œsecureโ€ messaging :marseytelegram: app, are activists used by the US state :marseycoonass: department for regime change abroad ๐Ÿฅท

https://twitter.com/jack/status/1787895769183268948

https://www.city-journal.org/article/signals-katherine-maher-problem

๐Ÿฅธ The US government spent $3M to build :marseyyarn: Signal's encryption, and today :marseyclueless: the exact same encryption is implemented in WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Google :marseygetgle: Messages and even Skype. It looks almost as if big tech in the US is not allowed to build :marseyikea: its own encryption protocols that would :marseymid: be independent of government interference ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ An alarming number of important people I've spoken to remarked that their โ€œprivateโ€ Signal messages had been exploited against them in US courts or media. But whenever somebody raises doubt :marseybruh2: about their encryption, Signal's typical response is โ€œwe are open source :marseymissing2: so anyone can verify that everything is all rightโ€. That, however, is a trick :marseyflareon: ๐Ÿคก

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Unlike Telegram, Signal doesn't allow researchers to make sure that their GitHub code is the same code that is used in the Signal app run on users' iPhones. Signal refused to add reproducible builds for iOS, closing a GitHub request from the community. And WhatsApp doesn't even publish the code of its apps, so all their talk about โ€œprivacyโ€ is an even more obvious :marseyoctopus4: circus :marseycryingclown: trick๐Ÿ’ค

https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-iOS/issues/641

๐Ÿ›ก Telegram is the only massively popular messaging :marseytelegram: service :marseygreytide: that allows everyone :marseynorm: to make sure that all of its apps indeed use the same open source :marseymissing2: code that is published on Github. For the past ten years, Telegram Secret :marseyglow: Chats have remained the only popular method of communication that is verifiably private ๐Ÿ’ช

Worked at a rescue kind of spot with easily 200 chickens, 50 turkeys, 3 rheas, 3 emus, few pigs, 10 goats, and a sheep. 98% of the chickens were fine, but there were definitely 2 roosters I would have done this to. Those mfers would hunt you down. I'd have to lock myself in the coup so they couldn't get in, and they'd keep pacing around trying to get in. (Also 1 of the emus was completely psycho and would charge you if you came within 100ft of it, luckily they are easily scared away) I'd rather by charged by the angry emu, then deal with angry roosters. (18)

Was just gonna say. I often pet sit for this family who raises chickens. The hens are more or less fine but the one rooster they have is such a b-word. And not even like a big one, just this little shit that thinks he's hot shit. I'd be lying if I said I haven't (lightly) punted that little fricker to show him who's boss. (7)

Yes, there is a distinct difference between eating tasty food and murdering a living being personally. Both from a psychological perspective and a moral one. (1)

Only to people who live in a world where the concept of consuming meat is completely detached from the inherent death and murder it entails... being ignorant of the fact you're supporting animal slaughter doesn't make it somehow more moral. Cannibalism bad whether it's a pyscho killing and eating a stranger or a "regular consumer" entering a "restaurant" to eat pieces of human meat that don't resemble a human in any way besides being called human nuggets. The latter involves killing millions of humans. (2)

Angriness: ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก

If a dog attacked you? I would definitely spin toss that shit.People here are weirdly dillusional. If you get an increasing strength in whooping and still go back for more, then it's on you. (5)

Yeah.. if a dog repeatedly attacked me, i would kill it. Or at least try to. Its either gonna be killed by me or whatever agency comes to destroy it for being a threat to humans. I don't see why humans should hold back against animals when their health is in danger, even if their life necessarily isn't. They aren't human. They don't understand logic necessarily. It's an easy way to let yourself get seriously hurt. (2)

Her family is now suing the Tiger Safari

https://i.imgur.com/a/uvXVxam.png

https://twitter.com/HarmlessYardDog/status/1787961752103133398/photo/1

The devastated family of a woman eaten alive by a safari park tiger are suing zoo bosses for ยฃ250,000.

The tragic incident began when a young woman got out of a car inside the Siberian tiger enclosure to berate her partner in the driver's seat.

One of the powerful creatures quickly pounced at Badaling Wildlife Park in Beijing, China.

Her mother and a man then also got out and went to her rescue.

The woman is speaking into the car when the tiger approaches from behind

The older woman, known only by her surname Zhao, was then attacked by a second tiger who dragged her to her death as park rangers frantically tried to intervene.

Her daughter survived the attack and launched a bid for compensation.

Yanqing district government said the tourists should be held accountable as they ignored warnings from the park authorities.

But now the family are seeking damages of ยฃ250,000 (HK$2.3 million), which the park rejected.

The horrendous incident was partly captured on shocking CCTV footage.

A silver car is driving along a paved pathway through the park when it comes to a stop.

A young woman gets out of the front passenger seat, slams her door and stomps round to the driver's side.

The driver also opens his door as the woman appears to remonstrate with him.

But within seconds, a tiger appears from nowhere and pounces on the woman's back from behind.

She appears to hear it coming only at the last second and is unable to escape.

The animal pulls her to the ground and away from the vehicle with lightning speed.

The man gets out of the car and for a moment appears unsure whether to get back in or go after the woman.

He then disappears off camera.

A few seconds later, the older woman also gets out the car as park rangers appear in a jeep.

The man appears to motion her back into the vehicle, but she runs with him off camera as well.

The second tiger attack is not captured on camera.

The park has been closed while an investigation is underway, according to local media.

Sources told ChinaNews said the accident involved a family of four including three adults and a child.

As the vehicle travelled through the Siberian tiger garden area, there was an "altercation" between the young woman and man who was driving.

She suddenly got out of the car and went to try and open his door.

Nope! Acknowledgement of and making fun of racism is not in and of itself racist. Thanks for asking, and I'm glad I could clear that up! (-274)

Mocking white people and asserting that white people often secretly have malicious racist motives, is racist though. Glad I could clear that up! (186)

Earnestly implying that white people often have hidden racist biases <----Not racist.Earnestly saying that all white people always have hidden racist motives <---- Kinda racist. My comic does the former, not the latter. Glad I could clear that up! (-202)

Really drew out the Not-Alls with this one, huh?For those of y'all who have your head in your butt, this obviously isn't about all white people because idk if you knew this, but not all white people are racist (though you could argue whether they continue to benefit from systemic racism). This also isn't about all racism, either. No shit people of every race are racist. This is about covert racism that you see a lot in environments where racists are taught that open racism is wrong, but don't internalize why it's wrong. They change how they refer to people because, oh god, they don't want the negative consequences, but they don't change the attitudes or beliefs behind them. It's like those stupid slur-baiting โ€œWho was in Paris?โ€ memes. People understand that they shouldn't say slurs but god darn do they want to. And obviously this is a behavior mostly seen in middle class white Americans because they get decent education but still have parents/grandparents who're still salty about de... (-1)

The amount of people in the comments saying โ€œI can't believe OP hates all white peopleโ€ or โ€œthis is just as racist as if it said โ€˜black people'โ€ is pretty pathetic. Yes, generalisations are bad, but when you have an institutionalised system of racism, then the outcome is generally the โ€œdominantโ€ race in that system being racist (with varying intensity/intent). That said, this post is about those racist things said by racist white people, not literally all white people. Also I'm not super educated on the topic but I'm hesitant to say racism against white people (at least in country's like America) exist (-24)

Subtitle: I want to draw a line in the sand between their racism and whatever forms of racism I participate in so I can feel good about myself rather than do the continual work of being introspective to actively deprogram the racism that I have been and continue to be taught. (-38)

Y'all downvoting but this is right. White people as a cultural group still set the standards of representation for our culture. Which means it's important not to associate with the racists by being offended on behalf of the people who claim to represent you. This is the man/bear question all over again. Yes it's not fair you have to be associated with these people. But being offended shows which side you're showing empathy towards. It's a messy topic and that means there's messy lines. These perspectives are not about painting with a wide brush. They're about sharing how the problem is still so endemic that from the perspectives of non-white people are experiencing so much racism that there's no way to talk about individuals only. It's not "all white people are racists".It's "white culture still has so much racism embedded in it".It's a subtle difference but a massive change in perspective if you think about it that way.
